Is this legal?
I cosigned for a car for someone and the dealer put my name on registration instead of owner I get all the parking tickets what can I do. The vehicle is up for repossession but they cannot find it. Can the finance company get the police involved to find the vehicle? Help! I know my credit is messed up but I cannot deal with paying the persons parking tickets too. I would rather them finding the car so I can start repairing the damage that has been done.

- 1) No the police will not search for the car or the person unless a crime has been committed 2) If the car is registered to you, you are the owner of the car even though you are only a co-signer 3) You have bigger things to worry about than parking tickets. i.e. liability for any damage or injury caused by the driver, repo expenses from the lender, any deficiency balances weather or not the car is recovered and repo'd. You got problems.
- Technically, the bank owns the car if it was not paid for. If you co-signed, they may consider you the legal co-owner. Call the DMV and explain what happened and see if they can change the registration. (You may need paperwork from the dealer)
- If you co-sign, and the signer defaults, you are now liable for what happens to that car. DON'T CO SIGN FOR STUPID FRIENDS WITH BAD CREDIT!

Most states require that car owners carry liability coverage in their car insurance policy.
