Stolen Property Law: Lexington, KY: My old roommate stole my iPod and iHome from me and left it with a friend

of hers, what is the appropriate responce to get it back? Since I know where the guy lives that is holding it now, I went to his house today and he wasn't home. Is it possible to call the police and would it be possible to get it back ASAP? I'm going on a road trip and I want it back, if the guy isn't home I assume an officer can't enter correct? Is it just easier to keep going back by myself and hoping he's home?

  1. #1 contact the police, via non emergency # not 911, see if you can make a report. #2 take your police report and/or proof of ownership and go 3-5 min away from his res. call the non emergency # and ask for a police escort to get your property back. (when you know they are home) #3 if you are unable to get a police report or your items back it's a civil matter and you need to take the ex roomie to court to get items back or the cash value back
